A guide to burning well

Candle Care.

Every candle we make is poured with intention. A little care on your end ensures it burns beautifully, cleanly, and all the way through, the way it was meant to.

"A well-tended candle is a small act of presence."

01 First Burn

The First Burn is Everything

The very first time you light your candle, allow it to burn until the wax melts all the way to the edge of the vessel. This is called a full melt pool, and for most of our candles, it takes between 2 to 3 hours.

Coconut apricot wax has a beautiful memory. If you extinguish it too early on the first burn, the wax will remember that smaller boundary and begin to tunnel, burning straight down the center and leaving wax along the edges untouched for the rest of the candle's life.

✦ Only light it when you have time to let it settle. The first burn sets everything that follows.
02 Wick Care

Trim Your Wick, Every Time

Before every burn, trim your wick to ¼ inch (6mm). It's the simplest habit for extending your candle's life and keeping the flame calm, clean, and steady. An untrimmed wick burns too high, producing soot, uneven pooling, and a shorter overall lifespan.

We use both wooden and cotton wicks depending on your preference. Here's what to know for each:

Wooden Wick

  • Trim to ¼ inch before each burn
  • Pinch or break off the charred tip, it's fragile
  • Won't stay lit? The wick may be too long
  • A soft crackle is normal, it's by design

Cotton Wick

  • Trim to ¼ inch before each burn
  • Use small scissors or a wick trimmer
  • Remove any trimmings from the wax before lighting
  • A calm, steady flame means a happy wick
03 Burn Time

Burn in Sessions, Not Marathons

We recommend burning for no longer than 2 to 3 hours at a time. Beyond that, the wick can begin to drift or mushroom, the wax may overheat, and the vessel becomes uncomfortably warm.

After extinguishing, allow the wax to cool and solidify completely before relighting. This gives the fragrance time to settle back into the wax, so each burn is just as rich as the first.

✦ Shorter sessions extend your candle's total life. A little restraint for a longer, slower ritual.
04 Placement

Place with Intention

Set your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, fans, open windows, and vents. Moving air disrupts the flame, causes uneven burning, and can leave soot marks on the inside of the vessel.

Keep away from flammable materials, children, and pets. Never leave a burning candle unattended. Our candles are made with care, but safe burning is always a shared responsibility.

✦ A flickering flame almost always means a draft nearby. Move it somewhere calmer and it will settle.
05 Knowing When to Stop

Know When to Let Go

Stop burning when approximately ½ inch (1–1.5cm) of wax remains at the bottom. Burning past this point can cause the vessel to overheat, potentially cracking the glass or scorching the surface beneath it.

Your candle has given everything it has. And what comes next is just as intentional.

Safety Reminders

Simple things that matter
🕯

Always burn within sight. Never leave a lit candle in an empty room.

🌿

Keep out of reach of children and pets at all times.

💨

Use a snuffer to extinguish. Avoid splashing liquid wax.

🪟

Burn in a ventilated space. Never burn in a fully enclosed room.

🫙

Never move a candle while the wax is liquid or the vessel is warm.

🍃

Keep away from anything flammable: fabric, paper, dried botanicals.

Give the Jar a
Second Life

Our vessels are designed to be kept. Once your candle has burned down, the jar can be cleaned and reused as a small planter, a pen holder, a vase for a single stem, or a home for trinkets on your dresser.

Nothing goes to waste here. That's always been the intention.

01

Freeze the jar for 1 to 2 hours. The remaining wax shrinks and pops out cleanly.

02

Remove the wick holder. A spoon or butter knife works gently along the base.

03

Wash with warm soapy water. Residue wipes away easily with a little coconut oil.

04

It's yours to keep. Fill it with whatever brings you joy.
